Gas Leak Disrupts Lives in Sivasagar’s Bhatiapar for Two Weeks

Fourteen days after a gas leak from ONGC’s Well No. 147 in Bhatiapar–Barichuk, around 750 villagers remain affected. Relief camps continue supplying daily rations, with some families still displaced. Gas levels have declined, but fears of ignition and health issues persist. A health camp reported cases of fever and diarrhoea. ONGC has begun well-capping operations using a 200-tonne crane. The Assam government announced ₹25,000 aid per affected family. Normalcy remains distant for residents still living in uncertainty.
