ACMS Warns of Rising Migration Crisis Among Assam’s Tea Garden Youth

Thousands of youths from Assam’s tea gardens are migrating to cities and abroad in search of work, often falling victim to exploitation and human trafficking. The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) has raised alarm over the issue, citing unregulated brokers luring workers with false promises. Trade union leader Raju Sahu stressed that many migrants remain unregistered, unaware of government welfare schemes, and vulnerable to abuse. He urged urgent worker registration, increased awareness, and legal safeguards through interstate agreements. The union called for united efforts from all sectors to protect and empower Assam’s tea garden communities.
