Guwahati Hills Face Landslide Threat from Human Activity and Climate Change

Human interference and changing weather patterns are making Guwahati’s hill slopes prone to landslides. Geology Professor Dr Parag Phukan of Gauhati University warns that encroachments, deforestation, and altered rain patterns have destroyed natural slopes, increasing vulnerability. Without urgent action, the situation may worsen, as seen in Dima Hasao where poor slope management during infrastructure projects now causes frequent landslides.
