Assam Launches Massive Eviction Drive in Rengma Forest

Assam government began a major eviction drive Tuesday in Rengma forest, Uriamghat (Golaghat), clearing over 11,000 bighas of alleged encroached land. Around 150 bulldozers targeted 12 villages, with 700+ security personnel deployed. Officials said notices were served to 1,500 families; most vacated earlier. Demolition began in Bidyapur market and will move to residential areas. The drive is part of Assam’s wider crackdown on forest land encroachment.
