Indian Tea Industry Faces Crisis Amid Falling Output, Prices, and Rising Imports

The Indian Tea Association has warned of a looming crisis in the tea sector due to falling production, declining prices, and rising imports. Output dropped by 109 million kg in 2024, with Assam and West Bengal worst hit. CTC tea prices have fallen by up to 9.5%, and imports surged 82%, adding pressure on domestic growers. The ITA has called for urgent policy action to protect the industry’s financial viability.
