AASU Launches Statewide Protests Against Govt Directive on Hindu Bangladeshis
The All Assam Students’ Union staged statewide protests against the Assam government’s order to withdraw Foreigners Tribunal cases against Hindu Bangladeshis. Demonstrations in Guwahati, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Tezpur, and Raha saw copies of the directive burned. AASU accused the government of pushing CAA “through the back door” and betraying indigenous rights. Key demands include scrapping the directive, removing CAA from Assam, NRC re-verification, and eviction of all illegal foreigners. Protests will expand to all Northeast capitals on August 18.
