Rising HIV Cases Among Assam’s Youth Spark Concern

HIV cases are surging in Assam, with Sonitpur district detecting 224 new infections between April and July, mostly among youth aged 18–26, including students. Officials warn that injectable drug use is driving the spread, alongside sexual transmission.

The Health Department has launched a two-month awareness campaign with over 100 programmes in schools, colleges, and communities to educate people on prevention. Authorities stress that awareness and lifestyle changes are key to protecting the younger generation.
