Assam Begins Bhupen Hazarika Birth Centenary Celebrations

Assam has launched year-long celebrations to mark the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the “Bard of the Brahmaputra.” The state government, cultural organisations, and Assamese communities worldwide are paying tribute through cultural functions, exhibitions, and community events.

The inaugural programme was held at Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Kshetra in Guwahati, attended by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah. Global events in countries including the US, UK, Germany, Singapore, and South Africa, alongside programmes across India, will highlight his enduring legacy.
