Guwahati Mayor Faces Backlash Over Durga Puja Pandal Plan

A row has erupted in Chandmari, Guwahati, after residents opposed a puja committee’s plan to build a pandal on a busy road, accusing GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania of backing the move. Locals allege the committee, with Sarania as chief advisor, even set up an office by covering a public drain despite objections.

With Durga Puja approaching and traffic concerns high due to ongoing flyover work and an upcoming Women’s ODI in the city, police have assured that no pandals will be allowed on roads and strict SOPs will be issued soon.
