Earthquakes Still Unpredictable, Says NCS Director

National Centre for Seismology Director Dr. OP Mishra stated that despite global research, predicting the exact time, place, and magnitude of earthquakes remains impossible. While India has advanced in identifying quake-prone zones and fault lines, complete prediction is still out of reach. He emphasized earthquake preparedness through resilient construction and retrofitting old buildings. Dr. Mishra added that frequent small quakes in Assam help release energy, reducing the risk of major damage.
