NFR Leads Green Mission with Guwahati Station’s Plastic-Free Model
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is advancing Indian Railways’ Green Mission 2030 with eco-friendly initiatives. Guwahati station is set to become India’s first 100% plastic recyclable station under a tripartite MoU with the Assam Pollution Control Board and IIT Guwahati. Measures include plastic segregation, bottle crushers, composting units, and QR code monitoring. IIT-developed compostable bags now replace single-use plastics in trains. Awareness drives and campaigns have boosted vendor compliance to 100% and cut passenger complaints by 60%. NFR plans to extend the model to nine more stations.
