Kalita Community Rallies in Nalbari Demanding ST Status

Hundreds from the Kalita community held a massive rally in Nalbari on Sunday demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Kalita-Alpine group. The protest, organized by the Kalita-Alpine Central Committee, began from Nalbari Government Gordon HS School and was stopped midway by police. Committee leader Bhubaneswar Kalita criticized both Congress and BJP for ignoring their demand and warned that the community would withdraw support in the 2026 elections if no action is taken. The protest ended peacefully but tension persisted in the area.
