Centre Reviews Worsening African Swine Fever Situation in Assam

A three-member Central team has arrived in Assam to review the severe spread of African Swine Fever, which officials say is now “out of control” and endemic. Since 2020, over 45,000 pigs have died, impacting more than 12,500 pig rearers. Lack of vaccines, poor awareness, illegal meat sales, and unregulated pig imports are worsening the crisis, forcing many farmers to quit. The team will assess affected areas to update the national containment plan.
