Assam Engineer Arrested for Taking ₹7,000 Bribe in Hojai

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, arrested Jahur Uddin Chowdhury, Assistant Engineer of Binnakandi Development Block, Hojai, for accepting a ₹7,000 bribe to clear pending bills.

Chowdhury was caught red-handed during a trap operation at the Block Development Office after demanding ₹10,000, later reduced to ₹7,000. The bribe money was recovered in the presence of witnesses.

A case has been registered under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), and further investigation is underway.
