Centre Releases ₹223 Crore to Strengthen Assam’s Rural Local Bodies

The Centre has released over ₹223 crore to Assam under the 15th Finance Commission grants for 2025–26. This includes ₹219.24 crore as the second instalment of untied grants and ₹4.69 crore earlier withheld. Funds will go to 27 District Panchayats, 182 Block Panchayats, and 2,192 Gram Panchayats. Untied grants support local development needs, while tied grants cover sanitation and drinking water. The Centre has also introduced digital tools like SabhaSaar, SVAMITVA, eGramSwaraj, and Gram Manchitra to improve transparency and rural governance.
