Expelled AIUDF MLA Jakir Hussain Laskar Likely to Join BJP

Hailakandi MLA Jakir Hussain Laskar, expelled from AIUDF for links with BJP during the 2024 polls, has signalled his willingness to join the ruling party if CM Himanta Biswa Sarma approves during his November 30 visit. Laskar was recently seen at the Hailakandi BJP office with Minister Krishnendu Paul, though local BJP leaders claim no official confirmation. He is reportedly eyeing the Algapur seat for the 2026 elections after delimitation changed Hailakandi’s voter profile. His entry into the BJP could create tension in the NDA, as Algapur was expected to be allocated to AGP.
