Journalist Alleges Threat from Ex-IAS Officer Over Baksa Jail Report

Guwahati journalist Rana Deka has filed a police complaint accusing retired IAS officer Hitesh Dev Sarma of threatening him and his family over a news report on the Baksa jail incident. Deka alleges the ex-officer pressured him to claim the video of an APS officer baton-charging protesters was “morphed” and even threatened his eight-year-old son. A case has been registered. The issue has sparked political reactions, with APCC chief Gaurav Gogoi demanding action. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the audio sounded like a friendly conversation but added that journalist safety measures may be considered.
