Bajali Press Guild Protests Against Alleged Threat to Journalist

The Bajali Press Guild staged a protest in Pathsala after former IAS officer Hitesh Dev Sarma allegedly threatened senior journalist Rana Deka over his coverage of recent demonstrations. Journalists wore black badges, held banners, and demanded strict legal action and better safety for media personnel.
Protesters said threats against reporters undermine press freedom and blocked roads seeking immediate action. They also criticised Sarma for allegedly threatening Deka and even an 8-year-old child.
The issue arose after NKTV aired a report showing APS officer Geetartha Dev Sarma—Sarma’s son—acting aggressively during a protest. Deka has filed an FIR, and police have launched an inquiry.
