Villagers Oppose Proposed 1200-MW Hydropower Project in Dima Hasao

Residents of Moti Lampu, Moti Hojai, and Riam Bathari villages in Dima Hasao have strongly opposed a proposed 1200-MW hydropower project by APGCL and Adani Green Energy. In a memorandum to BJP Assam president Dilip Saikia, village leaders objected to the reported NOC issued by NCHAC and warned that the project would submerge fertile farmland and jhum cultivation areas, threatening their livelihood.

They also raised concerns over the loss of forest cover, wildlife, and ecological balance. The villagers, dependent on agriculture and eri-muga rearing, said the project would displace tribal families. They vowed democratic protest and urged BJP intervention to withdraw the project.
