Kalita Community Warns of Statewide Protests Over Unmet Demands

The Sadau Asom Kalita Alpain Yanagosthi Sanmilan has accused the Assam government of neglecting long-pending demands of the Kalita community. Speaking at a press conference in Nalbari, leaders expressed disappointment after a recent meeting with the Chief Minister, claiming only a few points were discussed while core issues were ignored.

The organisation demanded inclusive dialogue with all Kalita bodies and urged the government to table the proposal for tribal status in the ongoing assembly session. They also sought land rights, reservations, and measures to address social and economic gaps.

Warning of agitation, the group announced district-wise protests from December, stating that if the government remains inactive, they will escalate pressure and politically oppose non-supportive leaders in the 2026 elections.
