APW Seeks Removal of Alleged Illegal Voters From Assam Rolls

Assam Public Works (APW) has submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission of India demanding deletion of what it claims are lakhs of illegal voters from Assam’s electoral rolls. The group said records indicate over 41 lakh such entries existed before 2006 and urged the ECI to ensure fairness and protect indigenous rights.

APW, a key petitioner in the NRC case, argued that rectifying voter lists is necessary to prevent misuse of voting rights. It also demanded the removal of descendants of those identified as illegal voters and called for stricter verification to protect genuine citizens.
