UPPL Faces Resignations Over Koch Rajbongshi ST Demand

Several Koch Rajbongshi leaders of the UPPL resigned on Sunday, accusing the party of failing to take a clear stand on granting Scheduled Tribe status to the community. The mass resignations began after a meeting in Sidli, with more members expected to step down soon.
Leaders said the UPPL president’s recent statement on the issue appeared unclear and disappointing. They added that organisations like AKRASU and KLO-KN had urged Koch Rajbongshi members in the party to resign.
Calling the Kokrajhar violence unfortunate, the leaders demanded that the State and Centre resolve the ST issue without delay and avoid using it as a political tactic ahead of the 2025 elections.
