Man Killed in Elephant Attack in Tinsukia

A 52-year-old man, Ajoy Bhumij, was killed by a wild elephant in Tokowoni village under Doomdooma, Tinsukia, early Monday morning. The elephant, believed to have strayed from the Duarmara Reserve Forest, attacked him near his backyard.
Locals blamed delayed forest department response, saying elephant incursions are now frequent due to habitat loss and food scarcity. The government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh for the victim’s family. Bhumij leaves behind his wife and three children.
