Assam University to Launch Assamese Language Department with UGC Approval

Assam Sahitya Sabha announced that Assam University will soon establish a full-fledged Department of Assamese Language after receiving UGC approval.

The announcement was made by Sabha president Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami during the centenary celebrations of Chandrakanta Handique Bhawan in Jorhat.

Goswami said the move marks a significant milestone for Assamese language promotion. He also announced two academic chairs honoring Lakshminath Bezbaruah and Padmanath Gohain Baruah.

The event featured cultural processions, tributes to Assamese icons, and participation from various communities, reflecting strong public support.
