AATSU Urges President to Reject ST Status for Six Assam Communities

The All Assam Tribal Students’ Union has submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu opposing the State’s move to grant ST status to six communities, including Tai Ahom, Koch-Rajbongshi, and Tea Tribes.

AATSU termed the proposal “anti-tribal,” warning it may dilute existing constitutional safeguards for current ST communities. The organisation argued the groups do not meet ST eligibility criteria and called for an independent review before any approval.
