Historic Jonbeel Mela to Be Held from January 22 to 24, 2026

The historic Jonbeel Mela, symbolising unity between hill and plains communities, will be held from January 22 to 24, 2026, on the banks of Jonbeel near the Jagiroad–Morigaon road. The fair will follow traditional customs, including the age-old barter system.
People from over 20 villages, including Karbi Anglong and Meghalaya, will participate. The first day will see the arrival of hill and valley communities with food items, followed by the traditional barter exchange on the second day. The Tiwa rajdarbah will be held thereafter, likely attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior leaders.
