AJP Launches Campaign for 2026 Assam Assembly Elections, Calls for Opposition Unity

The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on Wednesday formally began its campaign for the 2026 Assembly elections, vowing to unite Opposition parties to prevent the division of anti-BJP votes. Speaking at the party’s fifth foundation day celebrations in Sadiya, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi pledged to protect Assam’s land, identity, culture, and democratic values, while strongly opposing BJP rule.
AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan said Opposition parties had agreed to field common candidates to avoid vote splitting. The foundation day programme, attended by over 5,000 party workers, featured tributes to martyrs and cultural icons, along with sharp criticism of the ruling governments.
