Eviction Drive Continues to Reclaim Encroached Wetland in Nagaon

On the fifth day of the eviction drive, the Nagaon district administration intensified operations at the Roumari–Moiradhaj–Magurmari wetland under Dhing Revenue Circle to reclaim encroached government, forest, and water resources.

Heavy machinery was used to demolish illegal embankments and fill unauthorised fish ponds to restore natural water flow and ecological balance. Officials said the encroachments had disrupted biodiversity and caused waterlogging and floods in nearby villages.

The operation was conducted peacefully under police supervision, with district and revenue officials monitoring the process. Authorities said similar eviction drives will continue to protect wetlands and public land, a move welcomed by locals hoping it will ease flooding and improve agriculture.
