Eight Bangladesh Nationals Detained Near Assam Border in Sribhumi

Eight Bangladesh nationals were detained in two separate incidents near the India–Bangladesh border in Assam’s Sribhumi district on Tuesday, raising concerns over border security. The group was reportedly caught by Village Defence Party members after allegedly cutting border fencing and entering Indian territory, and later handed over to the Border Security Force for legal action.
In a separate case, another suspected Bangladeshi national was apprehended by locals in Sribhumi town and handed over to police. The incidents have renewed questions over surveillance, especially as the same group was reportedly pushed back earlier.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has earlier stated that over 30,000 illegal immigrants have been pushed back from Assam under the state’s ongoing enforcement measures.
