Congress to Contest Over 100 Seats in Assam 2026, Rules Out AIUDF Tie-up

Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday announced that the party will contest more than 100 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections and asserted there is “zero per cent chance” of an alliance with the All India United Democratic Front.
Addressing a rally in Sonitpur on the 140th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress, Gogoi said the remaining seats would be shared among other opposition parties, adding that talks with allies are progressing. He also hit back at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over claims that Congress would be reduced to contesting only a few seats, asserting that the party would lead a united opposition and form the next government in Assam.
