Assam University Outreach Helps Save Life of 9-Year-Old Girl with Heart Disease

Assam University played a key role in saving a nine-year-old girl from Rosekandi Tea Estate in Cachar who was suffering from severe anaemia and a congenital heart defect. The child successfully underwent open-heart surgery at Safdarjung Hospital on December 27.

Her condition was detected during a health screening under a Deep Learning-based Anaemia Detection Project conducted by Assam University in collaboration with ICMR-NIRDHDS. With coordinated support from health authorities and cardiologist Punit Gupta, the surgery was arranged in New Delhi. The child is now stable and recovering well.
