Opposition Urges Congress to Be Flexible on Seat-Sharing Ahead of 2026 Assam Polls

After APCC president Gaurav Gogoi announced that the Congress will contest 100 of 126 seats in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, other opposition parties called for flexibility to ensure unity against the BJP-led NDA. Leaders from CPI(M), CPI, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal said seat-sharing should be settled through closed-door negotiations, not public statements. While parties have begun preparations in selected constituencies, they stressed that compromise and accommodation are essential. Opposition leaders expressed hope that talks would conclude soon and that Congress would adopt a pragmatic, inclusive approach to finalise a consensus seat-sharing formula.
