Sarbananda Sonowal Calls Book Fairs “Pilgrimage Sites of Knowledge”

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Assam Book Fair at Khanapara, describing book fairs as “pilgrimage sites of knowledge” that nurture intellectual growth and a thoughtful society. He said books reflect a society’s conscience and play a vital role in nation-building.

Encouraging youth to develop a reading habit, Sonowal cautioned against excessive dependence on fleeting digital content, while acknowledging the usefulness of e-books and audiobooks. He stressed the need to modernise libraries and promote Assamese literature in contemporary formats, and interacted with readers and publishers during the visit.
