Mohilary Rules Out UPPL Tie-Up in BTR, Open to State-Level Role After 2026

BPF president and BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary on Sunday said he has no objection to the United People’s Party Liberal gaining representation in the Assam Assembly or Cabinet after the 2026 polls, but firmly ruled out any alliance with the party in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Mohilary said UPPL’s role could be acceptable at the state or central level, but it has no stake in BTC affairs. He added that major development projects are underway in Bodoland, including a ₹150-crore mini secretariat in Udalguri. On the 2026 elections, he said preparations have begun and BPF will seek a larger seat share within the NDA. He also confirmed Narendra Modi’s Assam visit on January 17 and praised Himanta Biswa Sarma for promoting Bagurumba dance on a national platform.
