Man Killed in Police Firing After Violent Rampage in Sivasagar

A man was killed in police firing in the Demow area of Assam’s Sivasagar district after he allegedly threatened police with a machete while attacking neighbours. The deceased, identified as Ranjit Pandav, was reportedly drunk and assaulted his neighbour Martin Pandav and his wife Gita, leaving both injured.
Police said repeated efforts to pacify him failed, following which warning shots were fired before police opened fire, aiming at his leg. Pandav was taken to hospital in a police vehicle but was declared dead on arrival. While Gita is out of danger, Martin remains critical. Police said the situation is under control and a detailed inquiry has been ordered.
