Prohibitory Orders Imposed in Kokrajhar, Chirang After Violence

Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS were imposed in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts to maintain public order amid rising tensions and violence between two ethnic groups. Mobile internet services were also suspended to prevent misinformation and ensure public safety, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Rapid Action Force personnel have been deployed, and senior officials are coordinating to restore normalcy. BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary termed the incident unfortunate and appealed for calm, alleging possible third-party involvement. ABSU president Dipen Boro condemned the violence and demanded a high-level probe.
Tension remains high in Kokrajhar following protests, highway blockades, arson, and clashes with police, with heavy security deployment continuing in the affected areas.
