IIT Guwahati Develops AI-Based Method to Design CRM-Free Alloys

Researchers from IIT Guwahati and partner universities in the UK have developed a machine learning–based approach to design high-performance metal alloys without using critical raw materials. The method targets sustainable High-Entropy Alloys while reducing dependence on scarce and expensive elements. Using AI models, the team identified a CRM-free Ti–Ni–Fe–Cu alloy, whose lab-tested hardness closely matched predictions. The study, highlighting a viable path toward sustainable alloy design, has been published in Scientific Reports.
