Citizens Urge Gauhati HC to Act on CM’s Remarks Against Community

Over 40 prominent citizens have urged the Gauhati High Court to take suo motu cognisance of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statements against Bengali-speaking Muslims, terming them hate speech and unconstitutional.

In a letter to the Chief Justice, they alleged the remarks promote discrimination, intimidation and communal targeting, and violate secular principles. The signatories called for court intervention to protect fundamental rights, uphold constitutional values, and direct authorities to act against alleged hate speech.
