Assam CM Flags Massive Forest Encroachment, Vows Strict Action

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said 2,676 sq. km of forest land in the state is under illegal encroachment, nearly twice the size of Delhi. He stated that restoring encroached forest areas is a top priority for the government.
The Chief Minister also announced that 880 hectares of forest land in Sribhumi district have been reclaimed after an eviction drive and warned that strict action will continue wherever forest and public land are illegally occupied.
