Tea Garden Workers in Assam Hold One-Hour Protest Against New Labour Codes

Tea garden workers across the Brahmaputra Valley staged a one-hour protest on Thursday in response to a nationwide strike call by central trade unions. Organised by the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), the workers demanded repeal of the four new labour codes, terming them anti-worker and pro-corporate. Protests were held in several tea estates across the district. Union leaders also demanded higher wages, full implementation of the Plantation Labour Act, land rights, and Scheduled Tribe status for tea tribes and Adivasi communities, warning of intensified protests if demands are ignored.
