Confusion in Assam Congress Over Bhupen Borah’s Resignation

Contradictory statements surfaced within the Assam Congress after former APCC president and Bihpuria MLA Bhupen Borah submitted his resignation to the party’s central leadership on Monday.

Hours later, Borah said he was reconsidering the decision and would announce his final stand by Tuesday morning, citing consultations with party leaders and his family. He said the move was not purely personal and stemmed from internal party issues.

However, AICC Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh claimed Borah had already withdrawn his resignation after talks with Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders, adding that the high command had not accepted it.

Senior Congress leaders, including APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, expressed confidence in party unity, saying Borah remains a key leader and will play a major role in the Assembly election campaign. The lack of a formal clarification from Borah has fuelled political speculation ahead of the polls.
