Prolonged Dry Spell Threatens Small Tea Growers in Tengani

Small tea growers in Tengani under Golaghat district are facing a severe crisis due to nearly six months of no rainfall, causing tea bushes to dry up. With no irrigation facilities, farmers fear for their livelihoods and have even offered prayers for rain. Around 2,000 growers across 42 villages depend on tea cultivation in the region, which produces about 15 lakh kg of green leaves annually. Growers are urging the government to provide irrigation support as the dry spell has also affected betel nut and agarwood crops.
