Three Youths Drown in Puthimari River During Holi Celebration in Hajo

A Holi celebration ended in tragedy after three youths drowned in the Puthimari River near Nayanpur in Assam’s Kamrup district on Wednesday night.

The deceased have been identified as Jay Prakash Kalita (28) of Nayanpur, Vishal Das (23) of Pakhamela, and Sandeep Kalita (22) of Shantipur.

According to reports, seven friends had gathered near the riverbank at Nayanpur in Hajo to celebrate Holi and organised a feast. After completing their cooking during the day, three of them entered the river to bathe but soon went missing.

The remaining friends alerted local residents and authorities, prompting a search operation. Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) later recovered the bodies from the river.

The tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the temple town of Hajo, turning the festive occasion into a day of mourning for the families and locals.
