₹120 Crore Healthcare Projects Planned at Jalannagar South Tea Estate

Three healthcare projects worth around ₹120 crore are planned on non-productive land of the Jalannagar South Tea Estate in Dibrugarh as part of a diversification initiative to revive the financially stressed plantation.
The proposed projects include Manavata Multispecialty Hospital, Renu Eye Institute and Perfect Smile Dental Clinic with a dental institute. MoUs for the projects were signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit and are now awaiting final state government approval.
Tea estate director Mrigendra Jalan said parts of the plantation have become unsuitable for tea cultivation due to flooding, waterlogging and rapid urbanisation. The garden currently earns only ₹40–50 lakh annually from tea production.
The broader diversification plan could attract around ₹250 crore in investment and generate jobs for 600–800 people, while ensuring no permanent worker loses employment.
