Youth Dies in Late-Night Fire at Bamunimaidam

A 22-year-old man died after a fire broke out in a cluster of shanties at Bamunimaidam in Guwahati around 12:30 am on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Amrit Mahto, was reportedly asleep inside a temporary hut when the blaze started. The fire spread quickly through the structure, trapping him inside. His body was later recovered from the burnt remains after the fire was brought under control.

Police from Chandmari Police Station have launched an investigation to determine whether the fire was accidental or intentionally set. Local residents also alleged a delay in the arrival of fire tenders, though officials have not confirmed the claim.
