BJP Announces 2 More Candidates Amid Rising Dissent in Assam

The BJP has announced Krishna Saha (Dalgaon) and Jiban Gogoi (Sissibargaon), taking its total candidates to 90 for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

However, internal dissent has surfaced, with senior leader Jayanta Kumar Das resigning and likely to contest as an independent from Dispur. Former MLA Amar Chand Jain has joined Congress, while talks with minister Nandita Gorlosa are reportedly ongoing.

Amid the unrest, minister Jayanta Mallabaruah met upset party leaders in Silchar, urging unity and commitment ahead of the elections.
