AIUDF Faces Tough Battle to Retain Base Ahead of Assam Polls

The All India United Democratic Front, led by Badruddin Ajmal, is struggling to hold its core support ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections after years of political rise and recent setbacks.
Once the main opposition with strong electoral gains in 2006 and 2011, the party’s influence has declined due to alliance breakdowns, voter shift towards Congress, and internal defections.
Its poor performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, including Ajmal’s defeat in Dhubri, further weakened its position.
AIUDF now plans to focus on around 30 seats, aiming for a modest comeback, while leaders admit challenges like lack of second-line leadership and over-dependence on Ajmal.
