Over 2.3 lakh families gain land rights under Mission Basundhara: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said over 2.3 lakh families have become landowners under the state’s Mission Basundhara initiative.

He stated that land pattas have been distributed to families in tea estate areas, granting formal ownership rights to indigenous communities. The move, he added, reinforces the government’s commitment to protecting “Jati, Mati, Bheti”.

Sarma also highlighted that the government has reclaimed land from encroachers while ensuring land rights for local people for the first time since Independence.

The initiative aims to regularise land ownership and strengthen the socio-economic security of indigenous families across Assam.
