Akhil Gogoi Promises Alternative Development Model for Assam

Akhil Gogoi, president of the Raijor Dal, on Friday outlined an alternative development vision for Assam, promising quality education, healthcare, and economic reforms if the opposition alliance comes to power in the April 9 Assembly elections.
Gogoi accused the BJP-led NDA government of favouring big corporate houses and neglecting local businesses, alleging that small retailers have been replaced by large corporations, leading to rising prices and unemployment. He also criticised the government for failing to protect public interests and job opportunities.
Highlighting his party’s roadmap, Gogoi proposed initiatives like “one village, one industry,” year-round farming, and skill-based “finishing schools” to boost employment and entrepreneurship. He also pledged laws to ensure free and quality education and healthcare as basic rights.
Meanwhile, Raijor Dal leaders expressed confidence that the six-party opposition alliance will secure a majority, with the party contesting 13 seats and aiming to win most of them.
