CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Alleges Congress Used “False Pakistani Sources” in Passport Row

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday accused the Indian National Congress of fabricating allegations about his wife holding multiple passports and owning foreign assets using false information sourced from a Pakistani social media group.
Addressing a press conference at Vajpayee Bhawan, Sarma said the documents cited by Congress were taken from a group named “Pakistanis in Ajman,” with his wife’s image allegedly morphed onto a lost passport. He termed the act a “crime against the nation” and claimed it was an attempt to influence the upcoming elections, which he said is punishable under law.
The controversy began after Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Gaurav Gogoi raised questions about alleged foreign passports, Dubai properties, and overseas business links of Sarma’s wife.
The Chief Minister said his wife has filed a police complaint against Khera and expressed confidence that legal action would follow. He also criticized Gaurav Gogoi for making what he described as “false allegations,” adding that such smear campaigns had been used by Congress in the past.
Reiterating his stand, Sarma said the allegations were politically motivated and aimed at impacting poll results, warning that those responsible would face legal consequences.
